Care & guarantee

Looking after natural materials

Oak, ash, linen, paper and stoneware all change a little with use, and most of that is why they are worth having. Below is what we do with the same pieces at home, followed by what our guarantee covers if something does go wrong.

Cloth wiping an oiled oak table top

Oak and ash

  • Wipe with a damp, well wrung cloth and dry it straight away.
  • Put mats under hot dishes and plant pots.
  • Oil once or twice a year. A small tin of the same hardwax oil comes free with every furniture order.
  • The ash bench has a soap finish: rub in soap flakes dissolved in warm water instead of oil.

Avoid spray polish and cleaners with alcohol, which strip the finish.

Linen curtain panel drying on a line

Linen

  • Wash covers and throws at 40 degrees on a gentle cycle.
  • Line dry and iron while still slightly damp.
  • Lined curtains should be dry cleaned so the lining and face do not shrink differently.

Undyed linen fades in strong sun. A lining slows it down a great deal.

Soft brush dusting a paper pendant shade

Paper shades

  • Dust with a soft brush, or a hairdryer on the cold setting.
  • Use LED bulbs no stronger than the wattage on the product.
  • Small tears can be patched; ask us for a sheet of matching paper.

Keep paper shades out of bathrooms and away from kitchen steam.

Stoneware bowls drying on a wooden rack

Stoneware

  • Bowls go in the dishwasher and the microwave.
  • Wash the iron glaze vase by hand and dry the base.
  • Let dishes warm up before they go into a hot oven.

The unglazed foot can mark polished wood if it is left wet.

Year furniture guarantee

Every piece of furniture we sell is guaranteed for five years from delivery against faults in materials and construction. It is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, not instead of them.

  • Joints that loosen or open up
  • Legs, rails and frames that crack under normal use
  • Drawers and sliding doors that stop running
  • Paper cord seats that break away from the frame

Not covered

  • Water rings, heat marks and scratches

Lighting, textiles and ceramics are covered by your statutory rights: faulty goods can be rejected within 30 days for a refund, and repaired or replaced after that.
