Headings

The heading is the top of the curtain. It decides how the folds fall and what it hangs from.

Pencil pleat

Gathered on tape with hooks. Works on a track or a pole, and is the easiest to take down for washing.

Making £29 a width

Pinch pleat

Triple pleats stitched by hand, so the folds hang evenly from top to hem. The heading we are asked for most with linen.

Making £42 a width

Eyelet

Brushed brass or black rings set into a stiffened top. For poles only; it slides open with one hand.

Making £36 a width

Roman blind

A flat panel that folds up on cords, on an oak batten inside or outside the window recess. Fabric is priced separately.

Making from £165 a blind

How to measure

  1. Use a steel tape. Cloth tapes stretch, and a centimetre shows on a curtain.
  2. Width, A. Measure the track or pole, not the window. If the pole has no overlap arms, add 4 cm for each curtain.
  3. Drop, B. From the top of the track, or from the bottom of the pole rings, to where the curtain should finish: 1 cm above the floor, on the sill, or 15 cm below it.
  4. Measure every window. Sash windows in the same room are often a few centimetres apart.

Not sure about your numbers? Email us a photo with the tape in the picture and we will check them before we quote.

A real quote, line by line

A pair of lined pencil pleat curtains in natural linen, for a track 150 cm wide and a drop of 230 cm. Gathered to twice the track width, that comes to three widths of fabric, each cut at 255 cm to allow for the heading and hems.

Your own quote shows the same lines, worked out for your windows.
